Patient Profiles
Adyana is a patient from Florida who developed permanent facial paralysis following a routine cold when she was two years old. After seeking medical treatment for her condition for several years, Adyana’s family came to the Facial Paralysis Institute for help.
Dr. Babak Azizzadeh performed a two-stage procedure for Adyana, first a cross-facial nerve graft, followed about a year later by a gracilis free muscle graft, or muscle transplant. After the second procedure, Adyana was able to regain use of the paralyzed right side of her face. Today she is able to smile spontaneously and is a well-adjusted student living a renewed life.
