Dr. Azizzadeh and Blackwell met Beloved, a young man from Zimbabwe, who was disfigured during a land-mine accident. Beloved was initially treated in his country with World War I type reconstruction with poor results. He was finally seen by Operation of Hope who with the help of their executive director, Jennifer Trubenbach brought Beloved to the United States where Dr. Azizzadeh and Blackwell performed 10 hour operation at UCLA Medical Center to correct his facial deformity and facial paralysis.
